IGNSpy? GameIGN? GameSpIGNy?

December 4th, 2003 No comments

Wow. Haven’t seen something like this hit the gaming side of the net for a while. Probably since Sega pulled out of the hardware market. Will take some getting used to, but hopefully GameSpy’s site will be the dominant one, removing some of the fluff that has taken over IGN.

Rev:The Rundown

September 29th, 2003 No comments

smikwily’s review of: The Rundown
Well, I agree with the whomever called this movie “the arrival of The Rock”. After seeing The Rock walk past The Terminator himself in the intro, being told by Arnie to “Have fun”, you get the feeling that the torch has been passed, and when the credits start to roll, you know it has.

Dwayne Johnson, AKA The Rock, plays Beck, a “collector” who just wants to pay off his debt and open a little restaurant, so he can be the chef. After convincingly and painfully taking on the “entire offensive line” for a pro football team in the opening scene of the movie, you get the feeling that this isn’t going to be another gun filled movie. Not saying guns don’t make an appearance, but it’s not until close to end of the movie before Beck puts his finger on the trigger.

All in all, Rundown was a good flick. A decent smattering of action and comedy, with the usual ‘shallow plot’ for those not there for the explosions and fights. Stiffler and Beck make a pretty decent team, although I do think that Seann William Scott got a bit “stiffed” on his part, as he seems to be there more for very light comedic support and to push the plot along. Toss in Rosario Dawson and the excellent Walken, and you’ve got one of the better action/adventure movies of the summer.

This one earns a 8/10.

Battlefield Vietnam

September 26th, 2003 No comments

I’m spending most of my free time lately playing Battlefield 1942, but the upcoming Battlefield Vietnam has me very interested. There is a new trailer out for BFV, and it looks and sounds very cool. Yes, you will be able to select that song, plus a few others, to fly your helicopter too.

Tilt Your Mouse, Sir?

September 5th, 2003 No comments

Need another axis on that mouse? Seems that Microsoft has you taken care of with their new Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer, featuring their new “Tilt Wheel Technology” (I’m sure that’s trademarked, but I’m not one for looking up special codes for the little TM). Not only does your scroll wheel scroll, it also tilts side to side. While horizontal scrolling isn’t used that much in normal, everyday user land, those who live in spreadsheets could find it useful (although IBM’s eraser tips on their mice currently so something similar).

It will be interesting to see if the gaming community picks up on this. Imagine using the tilt to look around corners in games, or scroll through inventory items. The mouse is supposedly out already, but I have yet to hear much about it. Could be another gimmick, or could be the next big thing in the land of desk rodents.

Roll Out!

September 3rd, 2003 No comments

AICN
has a little early info on the upcoming Live Action Transformers movie that’s in the works. Hopefully they won’t acknowledge the “Armada” version that’s ruining the series for those of us who were around for the initial run. Old skool Optimus with some new goodies and maybe a new look would be just about perfect for me.

Playing at PIXAR

September 2nd, 2003 No comments

The The Salt Lake Tribune has a very intresting article covering the offices at Pixar, the company responsible for Toy Story 1 & 2, A Bug life, Monsters, Inc., and most recently, Finding Nemo. If you think you have a nice office, think again.

Inside Nemo

CGNetworks has a very intresting article up on the “technical” side of making the Pixar film, Finding Nemo. I’ve heard portions of this elsewhere, but this is should give you an idea of what types of thinking and technology is required to make a movie of this type.

Germans Love Their Potter

July 14th, 2003 No comments

Wired News has an intresting little article cover the translation of the latest Harry Potter book into German. It won’t be a straight translation though, as some lines from the book do not have a direct translation, so some “discussion” will take place when it comes to bringing the current title to the German community.

Spidey Toon Hits July 11th On MTV

June 9th, 2003 No comments

I was wondering where exactly the new Spiderman cartoon has disappeared, but apparently I won’t be disappointed. According to AnimationInsider.net the webslinger will be hitting July 11 at 10:00 p.m. I’ll be sure to set the VCR for that one (actually, it’s a new DVR, courtesy of TimeWarner, our cable providers).

The Matrix In A Big Way

April 24th, 2003 No comments

I currently am planning on hitting The Matrix Reloaded on the Sunday of opening weekend, I could be making a return visit to catch it again, a few weeks later. An IMAX version is being worked on, so I’ll be heading to the local theater to check that out. If you think a regular screen could make this a movie to remember, the whole IMAX experience could push it way over the edge.

No “Updates” For Indy

April 10th, 2003 No comments

After seeing the episode of Southpark where the boys are fighting directors remakes of movie classics, I wasn’t really worried about the rumored Indiana Jones DVD Trilogy set being worked on. After that episode and talk of the scene where Indiana shoots the swordsman being removed, I started worrying that they were going to ruin the whole series with “Special Edition” versions of the classics. Well, thanks to TheForce.Net, I can breathe a little easier. Not only is the film being touched up to make it look better, but no scenes are being added. Whew!
