Silphone

April 27th, 2001 No comments

Check out Silophone if you get a chance. Basically they took an old empty grain silo and put some speakers and a microphone inside. You go to the site and listen to a stream of sounds that you can choose from. While at times a little chaotic, it is something I think you will enjoy.

GC Delayed In Japan. Are We Next?

April 18th, 2001 1 comment

Don’t act surprised. You knew it was coming. FGN is reporting that Nintendo has pushed the Gamecube release back from it’s scheduled July launch to September in Japan. October is the month for the US, with a 2002 launch for Europe. I’m hoping this isn’t a sign of an impending US delay. Knowing Nintendo’s track record with keeping with release schedules, things aren’t looking good.

Steven Kent ON FF:The Movie

April 17th, 2001 No comments

Steven Kent has finally given his quick review on the current status of the Final Fantasy Movie. The story covers both the movie and it’s short (and somewhat bumpy) history.

THE WORLD knows Square Soft for its hugely successful Final Fantasy role-playing games. Worldwide, Square Soft has sold a combined 26 million copies of its nine Final Fantasy titles.
The gaming world knows Final Fantasy as an amalgam of science fiction and fantasy in which heroes use guns, swords, elemental spirits and magic.
This summer, however, Square is going to turn a few heads by releasing a Final Fantasy that is a movie, not a game, set in a purely science fiction world.
Set for release on July 13 by Columbia/Tristar Pictures, ?Final Fantasy? appears to be one of the hottest box office prospects of the summer.

I Think His Name Is Steve

April 16th, 2001 No comments

Seems that a few actors got into a bit of a tiff during a break in filming. Injured with a stab in the neck was Steve Buscemi. Here’s some more on the brawl.

Actors get into barroom brawl
WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) – Actors Steve Buscemi and Vince Vaughn, in town filming a movie called “Domestic Disturbance,” got into a barroom brawl with locals that left Buscemi bloody and Vaughn in jail. Police say Buscemi was stabbed in the throat, head and arm in the fight at the Firebelly Lounge around 2 a.m. Thursday. He was treated at a hospital and released. Buscemi, who has starred in such films as “Fargo” and “28 Days,” flew to New York to recover. Timothy Fogerty of Wilmington was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Vaughn, screenwriter Scott Rosenberg and two other Wilmington men were charged with misdemeanor assault. All four men posted bond and were released Thursday, police said.
Police said the cause of the brawl is under investigation. One witness said the fight started when Vaughn began talking to the girlfriend of one of the men at the nightclub. Tempers got heated and people went outside, where the fighting escalated. The filming of “Domestic Disturbance,” which stars John Travolta, continued Thursday without Buscemi, according to a publicist.

Buscemi is the kinda creepy looking guy who is unfortunately known as the guy who way fed into the chipper in Fargo. He’s since become one of my faves to watch since all of his characters are quirky, but interesting. He is starring in the highly anticipated “Final Fantasy Movie: due this summer.

Indrema – Almost Here, Gone Before It’s Time

April 12th, 2001 No comments

Well, the Indrema game console is gone. Funding was hard to come by, so they have called it quits. I hate to see it go, but it would have been a struggle for them if they would have made it to launch. They brought some great ideas to the table (upgradable graphics chips, open-sourced based development (anyone could program for it), etc.), but it wasn’t enough to get financial support. Hopefully the ideas and spirit of the console will live on in future systems.

Lara And Bono

April 10th, 2001 1 comment

CVG also have word that Lara will be helping U2 battle the evil version of the band in an upcoming video for a song off of the sound track. ‘One sequence shows Lara rescuing U2 guitarist The Edge from the evil U2. The video finishes with both good and evil U2 squaring up in a street.’ Should be one to see.

VF4 Monk Named

April 10th, 2001 No comments

Computer and Video Games has tagged the monk from VF4 mentioned previously. His name is Lee Fei and he will be one of 12 initially selectable characters.

A DC port is not out of the question, but as of right now, it’s only coming to PS2 with a possible Xbo port.

MGS2 In The US First?

April 9th, 2001 No comments

Metal Gear Solid 2 might be hitting US shelves first if CVG is correct. While the original did well in Japan, it had a much larger success in the US. October 2001 seems to be the magic date. No official word, but the logic sounds right.

We’re getting MGS2, one of the most highly anticipated titles in a long while, as well as the mighty Xbox before the Japanese. Looks like the battlefield is leveling out.

Movie Reviews

April 9th, 2001 No comments

Went and saw ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon‘ last night. I can understand why people didn’t like it, but I thought it was good. Great visuals in both background location and movements during many of the fight and action scenes. Kudos to Ang Lee for keeping the movie in it’s original language. The sub-titles did take a little bit away from the movie, but mismatched lip movement would have detracted much more.

If you can handle the slow progression and enjoy the visual and acting performances, check it out. If you even doubt you will enjoy it, you might want to wait for video.

Also watched ‘Almost Famous‘ on Friday night. Good movie. Recommended.

Sammo To Direct Coul Caliber Movie

April 5th, 2001 No comments

Sammo News is reporting that the former Jackie Chan schoolmate is directing the Soul Caliber movie. Here’s the scoop:

Hollywood Sammo – This Time Official!
It’s official##Sammo will be directing “Soul Calibur”, based on Namco’s video game. Namco is the company that brought us Pac-Man and Tekken (among other games). There isn’t much information available yet since the agreement between the producers and Namco was signed on March 29, 2001, but the budget will be around $50 million US! With its medieval setting, shooting locations will probably be Eastern Europe and China. The film will probably have an international cast to reflect the global popularity of the game. Hopefully this film will get Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao involved in some capacity##a reunion of sorts. And of course this is what fans have been dying for all along. Rhythm & Hues will more than likely be the CG effects house for the project because of their relationship with Namco. Shooting is planned for late Summer/early Fall 2001. US release planned for Summer 2002. More news on this later. (you can check out http://www.namco.com and the Rhythm & Hues site for more info, as well at: http://www.soulcalibur.com)

If anyone can do it, Sammo can. Maybe a Jackie Cameo?

Sega has released shots of the new character joining the VF4 fight later this summer. If memory serves, this guy has moves similar to the one and only Jackie Chan.

VF4 is in the works for the PS2, but an Xbox version is rumored.

April 4th, 2001 No comments

FGN has some early shots of the recently announced Batman titled heading to the PS2. This chapter is based on the animated show and carries on the look very well. Hopefully this Batman title won’t carry on the curse of previous Batman bombs.
